An adventurous day out
Plenty awaits you at Monte Tamaro Park so we suggest enjoying a hearty breakfast full of vitamins at the hotel before setting off for a brilliant day out with your family. Monte Tamaro offers so much for a day out which include an exciting downhill bobsleigh and for those seeking an adrenaline rush enjoy the ride of your life on the 400 metre downhill zip line. You can also try your hand at paragliding and for the truly adventurous, brave the spectacular Tamaro jump! If all that wasn't enough, the mountain has some fantastic bike and hiking trails too. If you prefer to take life at a slightly slower place there are some easy to moderate walking paths suitable for all ages and the serious hikers will love the more challenging routes of Lema-Tamaro and Rivera-Alpe Foppa which offer scenery that is simply out of this world. Even if you prefer a relaxing time altogether, it’s worth heading up Mount Tamaro for the fresh mountain air and views alone. On a warm sunny day, you can enjoy the terrace and sun loungers, a peaceful haven while the kids are at play. http://www.montetamaro.ch/en

Ride & Hike to the top
If you love culture then Monte San Salvatore is a must visit. Its fame extends far and wide. Pilgrims would make their way to the summit in order to pay homage to Christ who, according to ancient legend, stopped there briefly during his ascension to Heaven. Nowadays the mountain draws its many visitors because of what is arguably one of the best views in Switzerland. The panoramic views are outstanding, taking in Lake Lugano and the magnificent mountain ranges of the Swiss and Savoy Alps. The Funicular railway here has been taking passengers to the top since 1888. Slowly climbing high amongst the trees it operates from morning to evening, March to November, with half-hourly departures. There are also excellent hiking trails that allow you to enjoy walking through the unspoilt countryside and gaze at the splendid scenery. Culture lovers can also enjoy the museum which features exciting new exhibitions and information about the history of the mountain. After exploring you can sit back and relax with a glass of wine and a bite to eat in the Vetta restaurant which offers menus inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, with healthy products of the season. On a balmy summer’s day, take a table on the terrace and admire the breathtaking views, you will truly feel on top of the world. The concierge team welcomes any questions you may have about any of the excursions and will be happy to help. http://www.montesansalvatore.ch/en/

A tour of Switzerland in one hour
Ever wondered what it would be like to see the whole of one country in just an hour? Pay a visit to Swissminiatur. Swiss pioneer Pierre Vuigner had a dream to create not just a miniature village but the whole of Switzerland scaled down to size. Swissminiatur opened its doors to the public in 1959 and has been fascinating visitors from across the globe ever since. Set in a beautiful park surrounded by mountains like Monte Generoso, Monte San Salvatore and Monte San Giorgio, one can marvel at more than 120 models which reproduce the most important buildings throughout Switzerland. Walking round the park is a magical experience for adults and children alike. Trains run on tiny tracks, boats sail on the lakes and a cable car runs up and down the mountain. It really is a work of art and has to be seen to be believed. Swissminiatur is a spectacular day out for all the family to enjoy. The little ones can take a ride on the passenger train and children of all ages will find lots of fun in the play area. The Hotel Splendide Royal features adjoining rooms that can accommodate families with children. http://www.swissminiatur.ch/en/

Goods smuggling across the lake
Wake up to the sun streaming into your luxury room and take a moment to enjoy a morning buffet breakfast with your family, before leaving for a fascinating place not too far away from the hotel. What makes this excursion so special is that you can begin and end this journey by boat, which will no doubt keep the children entertained. Lake Lugano is perhaps not the most conventional place for a museum but what was once a Swiss border guard post is now home to a place of interest for visitors interested in gaining a glimpse into the roles of border guards and customs agents in Switzerland and learning all about goods smuggling, drug searches, economic crime, migration, precious metal control, the protection of cultural property and species protection. Opened as a museum in 1949, you can view artefacts from 1848, when the Swiss Confederation was founded, right up to the present day. Although the actual Swiss border cannot be seen from here, there is a wonderful view of the lake and Monte Bré from the terrace. A short boat ride around the shore line makes for a memorable day out for you and the little ones before returning for a cool drink and a bite to eat back at the Splendide. http://www.museodelledogane.admin.ch
